DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 1st exciting concert in the Vertex & Friends concert series\, celebrating 10 years of Vertex Quartet! \nWe are sharing the stage with immensely talented local composer & cellist\, Conrad Sobieraj\, to perform Schubert’s exquisite cello quintet (D.956 in C Major)\, Boccherini’s famous Minuet (from Cello quintet in E Major)\, and a world premiere of Sobieraj’s String Quartet no. 3 “Mizeria”!! \nTickets at the door or on Eventbrite \nGeneral Admission: $35  Students: $15 \n______ \nVertex Quartet is an Edmonton-based string quartet comprised of Christina Barry (violin)\, Lydia Metzger (violin)\, Jeanie Kim (cello) and Jenna Gensler (viola). The quartet was formed in 2016 with the mission to expose people of all ages and backgrounds to familiar\, rare\, and new music. \nVertex Quartet regularly performs sponsored concerts\, at weddings and special events\, and does studio recordings in the Edmonton area. They also collaborate with other musicians and bands. Vertex Quartet recorded instrumental tracks for the album “SKIDS” for Indie band Rare Americans\, and collaborated with jazz band Good Information on a music series that was performed live at the Edmonton International Jazz Festival. They have performed alongside the Vaughan String Quartet\, pianist Bethel Balge\, for the St. Albert Chamber Music Society\, played Brouwer’s Beatles hits medley alongside guitarist Marcelo Avilés\, and hosted their 3rd Annual Open Music Competition for music students.

The first half of the event will be a story sharing presentation by speakers on the event topic\, with an extensive audience Q & A. The second half of the event is the Human Library portion where participants get a more personal connection with the presenters and topic through food and small group discussion around tables.This month\, Spill the T is taking on a conversation that may not be easy — but we believe it is an important one to have. \nJoining us is a Constable with the EPS Hate Crimes Unit who is also a member of the queer community\, Landon Turlock with the City of Edmonton along with Table Talkers Stephen (Organization for Prevention of Violence) and Jay (Stop Hate AB). Together\, we’ll talk about hate crimes\, available resources\, and the complex relationship between policing and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. \nA note to our community: We recognize that having a police officer involved may be difficult or uncomfortable for some. We respect those feelings and experiences. We hope that by including this presenter virtually\, we can foster open discussions in a safe space together\, and hopefully begin building some bridges. \n\nCome as you are.
