Hate Crimes – Beyond the Report

14 October @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Hate Crimes: Beyond the Report
October 14 | Kirk Centre
In partnership with Robertson-Wesley United Church

Spill the T is a series of events about topics within the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community. The first half of the event will be a story sharing presentation by speakers on the event topic, with an extensive audience Q & A. The second half of the event is the Human Library portion where participants get a more personal connection with the presenters and topic through food and small group discussion around tables.This month, Spill the T is taking on a conversation that may not be easy — but we believe it is an important one to have.

Joining us is a Constable with the EPS Hate Crimes Unit who is also a member of the queer community, Landon Turlock with the City of Edmonton along with Table Talkers Stephen (Organization for Prevention of Violence) and Jay (Stop Hate AB). Together, we’ll talk about hate crimes, available resources, and the complex relationship between policing and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

A note to our community: We recognize that having a police officer involved may be difficult or uncomfortable for some. We respect those feelings and experiences. We hope that by including this presenter virtually, we can foster open discussions in a safe space together, and hopefully begin building some bridges.

Come as you are. Bring your questions and your willingness to listen..
Spill The T events are always:
all ages and all identities friendly,
free to attend;
ASL interpreted, and
located in an accessible building with bathrooms and a lift for mobility needs.
